The Canada Day Race
of Champions at Flamboro Speedway, Event Format
Click Here for a printable PDF copy
The event will be a special event for Thunder Cars by invitation and
application to potentially compete with NASCAR Champions/Legends Ken
Schrader, Jimmy Spencer and Sterling Marlin. Flamboro Speedway
Thunder Car drivers who hold a top 20 standing as of June 27, 2011
will automatically be invited to participate. Special invitations
will also be issued to specific drivers, and all others are welcome
to apply to participate in the event. This is not an "open,
invitational" event.
There will be qualifying heats plus a feature to determine the 15
drivers who will get to compete in the 25-lap Canada Day Race of
Champions with the three NASCAR Stars.
RACE DATE: 2 pm Friday, July 1, 2011
(schedule attached)
Qualifying:
-
Flamboro Speedway Thunder Car drivers who hold a
top 20 points standing position as of June 27, 2011 will
automatically hold a starting spot in the first two qualifying
heats.
-
Invited drivers and those who successfully apply
to participate will make up the other two qualifying heats, to a
total of 40 cars (4 heats of 10 cars).
-
If fewer than 40 cars attend, there will be three
heats and a consi used to determine the starting order for the
first 25-lap feature. The top 15 from that feature will qualify
to race with the NASCAR Stars.
-
The Flamboro Thunder Car Top 20 will be divided
into 2 heats with odd numbers in Heat One (point positions 1, 3,
5, 7, etc.), and even numbers in Heat Two (positions 2, 4, 6, 8,
etc.). Heats 3 & 4 will be determined by random draw from all
other participating drivers. If the car count is lower than 40
cars, the 4th heat may be dropped and a consi race of all
non-qualified drivers will be held to determine the final
qualifiers.
-
The top 6 cars from each of the 4 heats, or the 3
heats and a consi, will qualify to the first feature. The top 6
from each of the first two heats (Flamboro Thunder Cars) will
make up the inside row for the first feature (positions 1, 3, 5,
7, etc). The top 6 from each of heats 3 & 4, or heat 3 and the
consi, will make up the outside row (positions 2, 4, 6, 8, 10
etc.).
-
At the end of the First Feature Race, the top 15
finishers will earn a starting position in the Canada Day Race
of Champions, competing against Ken Schrader, Jimmy Spencer, and
Sterling Marlin. A random draw will be held (numbers 1 - 18) to
determine a starting spot, and if any one of the three NASCAR
Stars draws position 1, 2 or 3, all three will have to go the
back to start the Canada Day Race of Champions in positions
16-17-18. All other drivers will assume the starting position
they draw.
-
Any driver who has not signed-in and drawn for a
starting position prior to 1pm will assume a scratch position in
the heats. Flamboro Speedway top 20 Thunder Car drivers who
have not signed-in prior to 1pm will be forced to qualify from
the invitational car heats.
25-lap Feature Race
-
The feature race of the event will be 25 laps.
Cars must use the same 4 tires for all qualifying and feature
races. Damaged tires may be submitted to tech officials for
replacement during the event.
-
Starting line-up for the 25-lap Feature Race will
be determined based on the qualifying as described above, with a
heads-up start for all qualified cars from the heats and/or
consi. The maximum field size for this feature race will be 24
cars, and the promoter reserves the right to add provisional
starters should the final number of qualified cars fall below
24.
-
Any provisional positions to be added will be
done behind those qualified cars.
25-lap Canada Day Race of Champions
-
The top 15 drivers from the Feature race will
automatically qualify for the Canada Day Race of Champions and
the opportunity to compete with NASCAR Stars Ken Schrader, Jimmy
Spencer and Sterling Marlin. Starting position will be
determined by random draw. If any one of the NASCAR drivers
draws starting position 1, 2 or 3, all three will be required to
start at the rear of the field (positions 16, 17 & 18).

Rules:
-
There will be a MANDATORY drivers' meeting in the
Tech Garage at 1:30pm. Any driver who fails to attend the
meeting will be prohibited from racing the day's event.
-
The use of a scanner or Race-ceiver by each
driver to monitor the official track frequency (UHF 451.7125) to
aid in on-track communication is MANDATORY. Any driver
failing to respond to line-up or other instructions delivered
via the one-way radio will be black-flagged and placed at the
back of the field.
-
Caution flags will NOT be counted in the 25 lap
totals for each feature. Cars leaving the race track during
caution laps will NOT be considered to have lost any laps
PROVIDED they are back on the speedway before the green flag.
Cars leaving the track will forfeit track position and rejoin
the field at the back.
-
The Race Director reserves the right to stop the
field in the case of an extended caution period.
-
Drivers leaving the track under green flag
conditions will be allowed to rejoin the field as permitted by
the corner 4 flagman, or under caution.
-
There is no guaranteed or mandatory count of
caution laps. Racing will resume at the starter's discretion
following a caution flag as quickly as possible in order not to
delay the show unnecessarily. Drivers staying on the track are
expected to maintain their positions in single file unless
directed to move via the one-way radio.
-
Lapped cars will be put to the back of the field
when the caution comes out.
-
If a caution comes out, cars that have crossed
the start-finish line will be scored accordingly. For any cars
that have not crossed the start-finish line, the LAST COMPLETED
GREEN FLAG LAP will set the field. If a car decides to pit
during a caution period, they will remain on the lead lap
provided they return to the race before the green flag, but will
forfeit track position and rejoin the field at the back.
-
All cars must take a green flag in the feature
race to be eligible for purse money.
-
Any car deemed by the starter to be unable to
maintain racing speed and in so doing create a hazard on the
track will be black-flagged and sent to the pit.
